CBOP wishes everyone a very Merry Christmas!

Kia ora tatou, greetings to you all,

It has been a successful yet at times challenging year for Creative Bay of Plenty. Many first steps have been climbed on our way to reach new milestones. We have made tremendous progress in terms of reshaping the purpose of our organisation, and how it can better serve our creative community in the future. We handed our beloved community gallery over to the experienced team at The Incubator Creative Hub, who gave the local arts scene a new beautiful home with The People’s Gallery – Toi ka rere.

Especially our community achieved some incredible things this year: From the success of Paradox to the National Jazz Festival, Tauranga Arts Festival, Open Air Art and Street Prints Mauao, 2017 was packed with world-class events showcasing the best of our region. We are proud to represent such a dedicated creative community with plenty of talented artists who make our life in the BOP most colourful, exciting and diverse.

2018 will be a big year! We are about to embark on implementing actions from the recently adopted Arts and Culture Strategy and cannot wait for first fruits to be picked and new pathways to be forged. We believe we have set the foundations and are ready to build on our future – come on the journey with us next year after we reopen on the 8th January!

Friends of Baycourt are pleased to announce that three Tauranga Girls’ College graduates are this years’ winners of the FOB Annual Performing Arts Youth Scholarship.

Overall 2017 scholarship winner Teagan Wilson (pictured) was awarded $3,000, first runner-up Danielle Sigley $2,000 and second runner up Darrel Nitschke received $1,000 prize money.

The annual scholarship is awarded to Western Bay of Plenty secondary school students aged 16 and over, who intend to undertake tertiary education in their chosen field of the performing arts in the following year.

FOB chair Anna Finlayson Smith says due to the high standard of applications this year selecting the three winners proved a difficult task for the judging panel. “We are hugely delighted to be supporting the next generation of performers with this scholarship and it is wonderful to see the skills and strengths of the applicants. Friends of Baycourt wishes them all the very best in their next steps in gaining more qualifications in the area of Performing Arts.”
