An exhibition of the work of Bay of Plenty artist Yana Meech opens tonight at 5pm at the People’s Gallery, the Historic Village 17th Avenue, Tauranga.

I’m racing in to collect a box of Tauranga Jazz Festival programmes to have for our Affordable Art & Artisan Fair at the Black Sheep, Whakamarama when I see the ever-working Nicci Baxter of the Incubator Collective helping finalise an exhibition in the People’s Gallery. Baxter is one of the Committed of the Incubator: tireless and talented and always supporting the work of other creatives and the Incubator itself. She returns my greeting by suggesting I pop in and do one of my walkthrough iphone videos.

I just love seeing exhibitions being packed in and out. There is a totally different vibe and you see and hear things you don’t when it’s up and waiting to be “viewed”. So, here’s my walkthrough and thank you Yanna and Nicci and I know it will be a great opening!

I’ve watched several colleagues curating and hanging exhibitions in a variety of art spaces. There is often far more work that the viewing audience would ever imagine.

Rain won’t deter us and you won’t be hearing any cancellation notice: We have a plan for “inclement” weather – we’ll all be in and around the cafe complex indoor and covered sections. Come and meet new exhibitors and enjoy the fun we have planned for our “Easter” Fair. I’ve already seen Birgitt’s hat and I can assure you, you won’t want to miss seeing that!

The Affordable Art & Artisan Fair will be on the last Sunday of March, that’s the 25th! The Fairs are held within the Black Sheep Bar & Grill complex. There is heaps of parking, clean toilets and wonderful food and coffee. There’s live music. And because we’re coming up to the season of the Easter Bunny, exhibitors at the Fair will be in the swing of things both jazz and chocolate!
