Want a retro/vintage fix? Here are a few ideas for destinations. RETRO ON RUSHTON at 11 Rushton Avenue, Bureta is a fun place to go. Rachel opens her premises Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. You will find a treasure trove of china, pottery, coloured glassware, textiles, furniture, art and housewares all displayed in interesting settings. Cool repurposed retro furniture is for sale as well so you can furnish your home with unique pieces which will last for many more years to come. I saw many items which my grandparents and parents had in their houses and a few more pieces that I want to add to my glassware collection. It’s not a traditional shop and it’s not big but the variety and quality of stock is great. Rachel is very welcoming and it’s nice to go somewhere different for a shopping experience

LITTLE VINTAGE MARKET is held on the 3rd Saturday of the month at the Mount Senior Citizens Club on Maunganui Road. It is across the road from Babette Café and along the road from Mount Mellick pub. Up the stairs and around the corner you will find repurposed furniture, clothing, homewares and a great stall selling vintage lighting. Facebook/LightVikingNZ
The hall isn’t huge so it is an intimate market with friendly stallholders and another great idea from the Little Big Market organizers.
If you are in Auckland make a trip to Parnell to visit MID CENTURY DESIGN. There is a parking area along the road and the shop is in a stand alone house. I loved opening the old door and finding a colour explosion inside. If you love retro colours like orange, gold, jade and yes even brown this is the shop for you. Amazing furniture that you could imagine in Miami or Palm Springs as well as some gorgeous table lamps, funky wall art, vases and more I love seeing their furniture pieces in my favourite home magazines. Bridget Hanley and her staff are a mine of information and I loved the cushions she gets made from retro tapestries and embroidered pieces of fabric.
