These shoes have seen Whopper, the vibrant Miranda Parkes exhibition currently showing at our Tauranga Art Gallery. They glide across the grey tiled supermarket floor. I ask if I can have a closer look. They are a bright and clear royal blue satin pump on high slender heels.
It’s not just this shining colour explosion that makes them stand out, it’s the embellishment – like a flock of butterflies has settled on the side of each shoe. When I look closely they are satin rectangles clustered in a tight grouping to produce the eyecatching and artistic display.
The lovely young woman wearing the shoes says “she adores shoes” and found these on line on www.shoeconnection.co.nz She tells me she loves to dress up basic plain clothing, often a black dress, with extraordinary bursts of colour. This evening her shrug is the same vibrant blue. Before she started work she would make her own clothes “envisioning” what she wanted.
She’s happy for me to take a phone photo so it’s down on the supermarket floor. I ask her what she’d like me to call this comment in ARTbop and she provides the title.
