On a recent trip to Hamilton I visited AESTHETE GALLERY I met directors, Lyn and Grant at a viewing day before the Arthur Dagley art auction in Tauranga last year. Their gallery is located on the corner of Victoria Street and Rostrevor Street in Hamilton. It is a dealer gallery with quality glassware, sculptures and ceramics as well as a great selection of original art and prints. The exhibition I viewed at the beginning of June was Altered Perspectives with a fascinating group of surrealist paintings. A Philip Kilmore painting of oversize hydrangeas was stunning and Justin Summerton’s large painting of Mitre Peak was brilliant. Rozi Demant paintings of nudes had a vintage look to them and were visually striking.
The latest exhibition running through June 14-28 is one not to be missed. .It is internationally renowned NZ artist, Max Gimblett’s exhibition, entitled, ‘Celebration’ .This is a collection of recent works direct from his New York studio. This exhibition is a ‘Celebration’ of Max’s generous gift to the University of Waikato of 22 works on paper, collectively titled ‘ The Universe’ in a year that the University celebrates its 50th anniversary.’ www.aesthete.co.nz
