The TAURANGA CREATIVE FIBRE exhibition held at Baycourt is full of colours and textures. The range always surprises me as well as the variety of techniques used. Yes there were scarves, some made in silk, fine wool, or combinations of fibres and in a range of colours including traditional autumn hues but also purples, pinks and even vivid blues. Felted wool items included wallhangings. Knitted garments made from spun wool and pottery from the Tauranga Potters Group.. Trade stalls featured fibres such as alpaca wool, spinning wheels, books and accessories. There was a demonstration of weaving on a loom which evoked memories of a favourite birthday gift of a mini weaving loom which I made a pink and blue woven scarf on. The Tauranga Creative Fibre group meets at Tauranga Arts Centre, Elizabeth Street near the Takitimu Drive roundabout on Mondays.
