Puketoki Reserve, Leyland Road Whakamarama

0

This reserve, which was donated to the local community in the 1920s, has recently seen some improvements. There is a new sign at the entrance, and a stylish replica of a bush tramway log on bogies near the entrance.

For the last six years the group Friends of Puketoki, led by Terry Edwards have been ridding the bush of exotic pests such as rats, mice, possums, ferrets, stoats and weasels. This has allowed a burst in birdlife, especially with the North Island Robin, Toutouwai.

We are always looking for new volunteers to join the team checking on the traps and bait stations for a couple of hours every two or three weeks.
